Stop paying Just Eat commission on your regulars: keep around £3,200 a year with your own ordering page

If half your orders come through Just Eat, a big slice of every Friday night goes to the app before you've paid for food, staff or rent. Look at who's behind the beeps on the Just Eat tablet. Many of them aren't new. They're regulars who live round the corner and would happily order from you direct, if ordering direct were as easy as tapping the app.
You can stop paying Just Eat commission on those orders without disappearing from the app. Give your regulars your own ordering page, make it just as quick, and let the app do what it's good at: finding you new customers.
Keep the app for new faces. Take your regulars direct.
Your regulars order from your own page instead of the app, and the full value of the order stays with you.
- £0 commission
- Paid to your Stripe
- Regulars order direct
The short answer
To stop paying Just Eat commission on repeat orders, take them on your own ordering website instead. With GofoodPOS there's £0 commission on online orders, and the money goes straight into your own Stripe account. You only pay card fees. Keep Just Eat for new customers, and move your regulars across with links, leaflets and coupons.
What Just Eat commission costs you
Just Eat's headline rate is around 14% plus VAT when you deliver the orders yourself, with a small admin fee on each order on top (Whito, September 2026). When Just Eat's own couriers deliver, published estimates go up to around 30% (DineOpen, July 2026). Your own contract has the exact figure, so check it before you do the sums.
Here's a worked example. Say you take 50 Just Eat orders a week at £20 each. That's £1,000 of food.
| Just Eat, you deliver | Just Eat, their couriers | Your own ordering page | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commission | around 14% + VAT = £168 | around 30% = £300 | £0 |
| Per-order admin fee | small fee on top | depends on plan | none |
| Card fees (example: 3% + 30p) | n/a | n/a | £45 |
| Cost per week | £168 or more | £300 or more | £45 |
We've used 3% + 30p for card fees on purpose. It's higher than most rates, so the saving isn't flattered. Your real rate is on our pricing page.
On the own-delivery plan, moving all 50 orders saves about £123 a week. That's about £6,400 a year.
£168a week in commission
- Around 14% + VAT on every order
- A small admin fee on top
- Paid out by the app, minus its cut
£45a week in card fees
- £0 commission
- Money straight to your own Stripe account
- About £6,400 a year back
If you only get a handful of Just Eat orders a week, this probably isn't worth the bother yet. At 50 a week, it is.
You won't move every order, and you shouldn't try. Say half of them are regulars who switch. Those 25 orders cost about £84 a week in Just Eat commission. Through your own page they cost about £22.50 in card fees. That's about £61 a week back in your pocket, or roughly £3,200 a year, from customers who were already yours.
If Just Eat's couriers deliver for you now, the gap is bigger. You'd need your own driver for direct orders, so take what a driver costs you off the saving before you decide.
How GofoodPOS gets your regulars ordering direct
An ordering page that's as easy as the app
Customers order from your own website with an order button that opens your menu, full screen on phones. No website yet? You get a free ordering site at yourname.gofood.uk with your menu, hours, map and photos. Both come with commission-free online ordering for delivery, collection and order-ahead, and we set up your menu with you.
- Regulars only know you on the app
- Phoning in means waiting on hold
- No website, or one with no ordering
- An order button on your own site
- Full screen on phones, as quick as the app
- A free yourname.gofood.uk site if you need one
Your money goes straight to your account
Customers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the money goes into your own Stripe account. You're not waiting for an app to pay you out at the end of the week, minus its cut. You can also take cash on delivery or collection if you want to. See how online payments work.
- 1Customer pays by card or Apple Pay
- 2It lands in your own Stripe account
- 3No app cut, no waiting for a payout
Direct orders land in the same place as everything else
Online orders arrive live on the till with a loud alert until someone accepts them. They print in the kitchen on your network printers, with Chinese dish names if your chefs want them. The menu is shared between the till and your ordering page, so a price change or a sold-out dish updates both at once. More on orders and kitchen tickets.
- A tablet beeping for each app
- Orders typed again into the till
- Prices changed in two places
- Online orders arrive on the till
- Tickets print straight to the kitchen
- One menu for the till and your website
Your own drivers, without the app
Add your drivers, assign orders to them, and they get a simple page with the address, directions and a delivered button. Cash collected by each driver is checked at the end of the shift. That's delivery with your own drivers.
- 1Order is packed
- 2You assign it to a driver
- 3Driver opens address and directions
- 4Cash checked at the end of the shift
Tools that move customers across
Make a tracked link for your leaflets, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Google profile, and see which ones bring orders. Give regulars a coupon at the till that they can use on their next online order. Phone regulars come up by number on the till too, so you can tell them about your ordering page while they're on the line.
- No idea which leaflet worked
- Regulars keep ordering on the app
- Tracked links for leaflets and social posts
- Till coupons for their next online order
- Tell phone regulars about your page

Questions owners ask us
Will I lose the customers who find me on Just Eat?
Not if you stay on it. Plenty of takeaways keep Just Eat for new customers and move only their regulars to their own page. The app still brings people in, and you stop paying it again and again for people who already know you.
Is it hard to set up?
No. We set up your menu, delivery zones and payments with you, in English or Chinese. If you're coming from GloriaFood, which is closing, we've written up how to switch from GloriaFood as well.
Do I need new hardware?
Usually not. GofoodPOS runs on Android tablets and Windows, so the tablet or PC you have may do. If you need a printer for direct orders, our receipt printers start at £69 ex VAT and kitchen printers at £129 ex VAT. For the full picture, see what an EPOS system costs.
Does this work for my kind of takeaway?
Yes. It suits any takeaway with regulars. A Chinese takeaway gets big repeat orders and lots of phone regulars, and a pizza takeaway gets the same families every weekend. Those are the orders worth moving first.
